UPDATE: IDAHO POTATOES

October 02, 2020

New crop Idaho potato harvesting will be completed by the end of next week; about two weeks earlier than normal. Once harvesting has ended, growers typically gain control of supply levels, pushing prices upward. Expect prices to begin their move upward the week of October 12.

Norkotahs

  • Norkotah supplies are excellent; quality remains very good (photo attached)
  • MFC Norkotahs will begin to ship out of storage the week of October 12
  • Norkotahs will be the primary variety shipped until the spring
  • More Norkotahs will be harvested this season than in years past
  • Growers are reporting higher yields, quality, and size profile in the Norkotah variety

Burbanks

  • Very limited supplies of new crop Burbanks will be available next week
  • MFC Burbank Potatoes will be available once the sweat process is complete (late October/early November)
  • Expect limited availability of Burbanks through February
  • Burbanks are more suited for late-season storage; growers have planted fewer than normal
