UPDATE: Idaho Potatoes
August 24, 2018
Markon First Crop (MFC) Norkotah Potatoes are readily available in Idaho. Size is dominated by the 70- through 100- count sizes. Large sizes, 40- through 60- count and No. 2 potatoes, remain limited.
New Crop Norkotahs
- Norkotah quality is very good; yields are high due to ideal growing conditions
- Minor skinning, excess moisture, and cooler mold may be observed in fresh-run potatoes; condensation develops on the potato when it goes from a warm field to a refrigerated truck
- Excess moisture can cause a light white surface residue that can be easily brushed off and does not pose further quality issues
- Store potatoes at 40 to 50 degrees F/4.4 to 10 degrees C; adequate air flow is critical
- Ordering for quick turns is recommended
New Crop Burbanks
- New crop Burbank harvesting will begin in late September
- Fresh-run packer label supplies will be on the market while harvesting takes place
- Once production is complete, MFC Burbank Potatoes will be cellared for the sweat process, then will enter the market in late October.
