UPDATE: IDAHO POTATOES – COLD WEATHER FORECAST & HOLIDAY LOADING HOURS

December 18, 2020

Extremely low temperatures are forecast in Eastern Idaho.  Suppliers will also be operating on limited hours through Christmas and New Year’s Eve, and closed Christmas and New Year’s Day.

  • The cold weather may affect the number of finished potatoes packed as well as delay loading times
    • Temperatures need to be 18 degrees or warmer for five to seven hours of the day to transport potatoes to sheds
    • Hauling from storage to production areas when temperatures are below 18 degrees will freeze the potatoes
  • Carriers should be aware of holiday loading hours
    • On Christmas and New Year’s Eve, most sheds will be working abbreviated hours; a few sheds will be closed
    • All sheds will be closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day
    • Many sheds will reopen with limited hours on the Saturday following each holiday
    • December 28 and January 4 will be very slow loading days as suppliers will not produce over the holidays or weekends
