UPDATE: Ice in the Desert Growing Region
November 21, 2016
Freezing temperatures in the Arizona/California growing region are expected to interfere with lettuce and leafy green harvests November 29-30. Cooler temperatures are expected to persist into the first week of December; widespread lettuce ice is forecast. Cold weather can slow plant maturity and reduce production hours, as crews have to wait for plants to thaw sufficiently before harvesting. Expect volatile prices for the next several weeks.
