UPDATE: Hurricane Blanca

Hurricane Blanca has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm as it travels northwest along Mexico’s Central and Southern Baja Peninsula. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 40 mph with some higher gusts. Rainfall totals of five inches are being reported in some areas. Rainfall will move into the Southwestern United States later today.
- Vegetables including bell peppers, cucumbers, chile peppers, squash, and tomatoes are grown in these regions
- Damage to crops will result in higher prices throughout the summer, especially for cucumbers and tomatoes
- Growers continue to monitor the storm, but it will take several days to evaluate damage
