Hot weather is forecast for the next 10 days in the Arizona/California growing regions for broccoli, cauliflower, green leaf, iceberg, and tender leaf items. Temperatures will rise as high as 80 to 90 degrees, potentially causing some quality issues.

• Forecast for the main growing regions are listed below:
• The Yuma, Arizona and California’s Imperial Valley growing regions are expecting low 90s
• Huron, California will reach low to mid-80s and as high as 90 degrees
• Salinas, California is expecting to reach mid- to high 70s to 80 degrees for the next 10 days
• Quality issues such as dehydration, increased insect pressure, heat stress on tender leaf items, higher respiration rates, shortened shelf-life, and sunburn are expected to impact supplies over the next two or three weeks
• Markon recommends ordering for quick turnaround to maintain the cold chain and maximize the shelf-life of commodity and value-added items
• Markon inspectors will continue to monitor fields and report any heat-related quality issues
