UPDATE: GREEN LEAF, ICEBERG, AND ROMAINE

December 18, 2020

Lettuce prices remain low due to ample supplies and weak demand in the Arizona/California desert region.

  • Demand has eased
    • The holiday pull is ending
    • A Nor’easter storm system produced record-breaking snowfall in many parts of the Northeastern United States
  • Quality is very good, but expected to degrade in the coming weeks
    • Sporadic growth crack and dense texture are present in some lots
    • Epidermal blistering and frost damage are being observed at higher rates as lettuce ice persists in the desert growing regions
    • Low temperatures with light-to-moderate lettuce ice are forecast through Tuesday, December 22
  • Expect weak prices through the end of December
  • Please note, COVID restrictions may greatly affect demand as foodservice establishments are forced to reduce operations
