UPDATE: Garlic

March 11, 2016

In comparison to years past, the season’s domestic storage garlic yields are lower than normal; a high percentage of product has been culled during the packing stage. Chinese garlic is also in short supply, pushing demand to the West Coast.

  • Domestic garlic is grown during the winter months, harvested during the summer, and put into storage for year-round distribution
  • Abnormal weather patterns during last year’s domestic planting and harvesting phases caused more defects and lower yields for this year’s storage crop
  • As the storage season winds down, growers continue to manage production lines to extend supplies through June
  • New crop domestic harvests will begin in July
  • Expect high prices and low volume over the next three months
