Heavy rain and wind moved into Central and South Florida this week. Rain in the bell pepper, cabbage, cucumber, and tomato growing regions interrupted harvesting, but severe shortages aren’t expected. 

• Green bell pepper prices will rise over the next two weeks, but mainly due to the season ending in Florida and Mexico
• Some Florida fields received hail, which will lower yields during the final weeks of production
• Georgia harvests will start in mid-May; supplies are ample in Coachella, California
• Cucumber and squash production has moved to Georgia; prices will remain steady
• Spring tomato production is ample in Florida’s Ruskin-Palmetto region; large sizes dominate the crop
• Most growers let fields dry before packing product to avoid quality issues
