East Coast domestic cucumber supplies are extremely limited; offshore production in Central America is sufficient, but higher transport costs will keep prices elevated. Mexican-grown stocks are adequate, yet cooler weather in Sinaloa and stronger East Coast demand will keep volume low (into Nogales, Arizona and South Texas). Squash supplies are extremely limited due to below-average temperatures in Southern Florida and mainland Mexico. Cooler-than-normal weather has slowed plant growth and limited production. Prices will remain steady at high levels over the next two weeks while new growing areas in Sonora, Mexico ramp up by early February.

Cucumbers

• Markon First Crop (MFC) Cucumbers are available from Mexico (into Nogales and South Texas)
• Mexican quality is excellent; flavor is refreshing, shape is uniform, and color is dark green
• Increased demand will keep the market elevated over the next two to three weeks
• Domestic stocks in Southern Florida are extremely limited
• Offshore supplies from Central America are steady; prices are higher due to increased transit costs

Squash

• MFC Squash is sporadic in Florida
• Both green zucchini and yellow squash supplies are very tight
• Below-average temperatures in Southern Florida have limited production, significantly reducing East Coast stocks
• Growers in mainland Mexico will transition to Southern Sonora over the next two weeks 
• Supplies will remain limited while fields ramp up
• Quality is good: problems include scarring and odd shape
• Expect elevated prices for the next two weeks as new crop Mexican supplies increase
