UPDATE: CUCUMBERS

March 18, 2021

Expect cucumber prices to ease as the Florida season ramps up this week. Mainland Mexico remains the primary growing region, but the transition to Baja is around the corner.

Mexico

  • The mainland growing region of Sinaloa will run through late April
    • Crops are producing fewer super-select grades; plains and selects are more plentiful
    • Further north in Sonora, new crop harvesting is underway; production should last until early June
    • The Baja season will ramp up in April
  • Demand is moderate; expect prices to inch down as more inventory floods the market over the next month

Florida

  • Florida domestic growing regions are up and running; additional acreage is expected over the next two weeks
  • Imported cucumbers from Honduras are still in the Florida market; however, the season will wind down as demand increases for domestic product
  • Quality is good in both regions
