UPDATE: Cooler Temperatures in the Desert Growing Region

December 05, 2017

A brief cooling period is expected over the next few days; temperatures will drop into the low 70s during the day and upper 40s at night. Light lettuce ice may develop, but windy conditions will keep it to the more sheltered areas. The weather is expected to warm into the weekend, but if low temperatures persist through the week, expect lower volume and higher prices.

  • Markon First Crop (MFC) Premium Iceberg is available for most orders; Markon Best Available is being substituted as needed
  • MFC Premium Green Leaf and Romaine are readily available
  • Cold weather and lettuce ice can slow plant maturity and reduce production hours, as harvesting is delayed to allow plants to thaw; longer periods of cold weather will increase quality issues, reduce supplies, and increase prices
