The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has now lifted the ban for cilantro grown in Puebla, Mexico (into South Texas). Growers in the region must have special certification to be placed on the “green list” that allows shipments into the United States and Canada.

• Even though the ban was lifted, most South Texas suppliers remain reluctant to ship cilantro from Puebla at this time 
• More Mexican growers are expected to be placed on the green list soon; industry supplies will be extremely limited until that time
• Hot, humid weather in California and Baja, Mexico continues to reduce yields and tighten stocks 
• Over the next several weeks, more cilantro will enter South Texas, reducing West Coast demand and softening open-market pricing
