UPDATE: CELERY
December 18, 2020
Celery prices are elevated due to recent holiday demand and lower-than-normal industry supplies.
- Stocks are below normal levels in Oxnard, and Santa Maria, California as cold weather has slowed growth; disease pressure, such as fusarium, is also reducing yields
- Overall quality is excellent: stalks are firm with deep color
- Fields in the Imperial and Yuma desert growing regions that typically start in mid-December have been delayed 7 to 10 days by low temperatures, further limiting industry supplies
- Markets are expected to be fairly steady at elevated levels for the next two to three weeks until industry supplies increase
