UPDATE: CANTALOUPE AND HONEYDEW MELONS

Offshore cantaloupe prices are easing. Honeydew prices are beginning to soar.
Cantaloupe

Offshore arrivals into the U.S. are up; yields out of Central America have increased
- The majority of supplies are from Guatemala; Costa Rica and Honduras are also in production
- The crop is dominated by smaller sizes such as 12- and 15-count fruit; jumbo/9-count melons are tight
- Expect markets to ease through March
- Offshore supplies will remain on the market into May
- The domestic cantaloupe season will begin in early May
Honeydew

Mexican growers will transition to new growing regions over the next three weeks, causing a supply gap out of Nogales, Arizona and South Texas
- Availability has tightened; prices are on the rise
- Offshore supplies are adequate and will help fill the void
- The crop is dominated by smaller sizes such as 6- and 8-count fruit; jumbo/5-count melons are limited
- Expect elevated markets through late March; relief is not expected until early April when new crop Mexican production ramps up
- The domestic honeydew season will begin mid-May
