UPDATE: CALIFORNIA STRAWBERRIES
July 06, 2020
Strawberry demand remains strong; prices continue to rise. Strong markets are expected through the month of July.
Salinas/Watsonville
- Markon First Crop (MFC) Strawberries are available
-
Early June’s abnormally high temperatures are negatively affecting July’s strawberry production
- Hot weather has damaged the crop’s ability to mature at normal rates and reduced the volume each plant can produce
- As plants are not maturing at their normal rate, fruit size will be smaller and more individual prices of fruit will be needed to fill clamshells
- Despite these issues, quality remains strong
Santa Maria
- MFC Strawberries are available
- Stocks are tight; production is past peak levels
- Quality is good
