UPDATE: California Strawberries
June 19, 2017
California’s primary strawberry growing regions are experiencing abnormally warm temperatures (low to mid-80’s). Strawberry quality and shelf life will be impacted for arrivals next week. Warm temperatures are forecast through Sunday, June 25th.
- Markon First Crop Strawberries are sporadic; Markon Best Available and packer label will be substituted as needed
-
High temperatures are expected to decrease berry quality, reduce overall yields, and cause issues on arrival such as:
- Bruising/bleeding
- Over ripeness
- Small size
- Shortened shelf-life
- Soft texture
- Markon recommends ordering for quick turns and loading FOB (avoiding the cross-dock) when possible for best shelf-life
