UPDATE: California Strawberries

Freezing temperatures in the Oxnard and Santa Maria, California growing regions have affected strawberry production. Growers are assessing fields, but anticipate 15-20% damage. Expect tight supplies and high prices into March.
- Markon First Crop Strawberries are sporadic; packer label is being substituted as needed
- Nighttime temperatures dropped into the low to mid-20s in some areas
- Yields are expected to decrease as much as 20%; damage to blossoms and green fruit will reduce total volume over the next 2-3 weeks
- Prices will rise by the end of the week
- Temperatures are expected to remain near freezing through Friday
