Supplies have tightened due to last week’s rain. Growers had to cull damaged fruit, leading to lower-than-normal yields this week. High temperatures are forecast for today, June 15 through early next week, which will ripen berries faster, but could decrease quality and shelf-life.

• Markon First Crop Strawberries are sporadic; Markon Best Available and packer label will be substituted as needed
• Santa Maria temperatures are forecast to reach the mid-80s
• Salinas/Watsonville temperatures will reach the low 80s
• The abnormally warm weather is expected to decrease berry quality and cause issues such as:
  • Bruising/bleeding
  • Over ripeness
  • Small size
  • Shortened shelf-life
  • Soft texture
• Markon recommends ordering for quick turns and loading FOB (avoiding the cross-dock) when possible for best shelf-life
