UPDATE: California Strawberries

Markon Best Available Strawberries are sporadic; packer label is being substituted in Oxnard and Santa Maria, California. This week’s rain has caused growers to cancel harvesting several days this week in order to strip damaged berries. Prices are rising; supplies are very tight. Quality and shelf-life are concerns. Production should return to normal by Monday.

- Harvesting crews are heavily culling fields for rain-damaged berries; yields are very low
- Bruising, soft texture, and shortened shelf-life are concerns
- Cooler temperatures are slowing growth; berries are taking longer to reach full color
