UPDATE: California Oranges

March 09, 2018

Markon First Crop and Markon Essentials Oranges are sporadic; packer label is being substituted as needed. California stocks are dominated by large sizes (56- and 72-count fruit); smaller sizes (88-count and smaller) are extremely tight. Markets remain elevated.

  • Supplies on 113- and 138-count fruit will become extremely limited over the next two weeks
    • Supplies of 113 and 138-count have been plentiful over the past month due to increased export demand for 56- through 88-count fruit
    • As export demand decreases over the coming weeks, growers will harvest less fruit, decreasing the availability of 113- and 138-count packs
  • Navel supplies will be available through late May
  • New crop California Valencia harvest will start late April/early May; initial total yield estimates are down approximately 10% from last season
  • Florida Valencia supplies are available through May; large sizes (56- and 72- count fruit) dominate the market
  • New crop Texas Valencias have started limited production; supplies are expected to increase over the next several weeks
