UPDATE: BRUSSELS SPROUTS
July 30, 2021
The Brussels sprouts market is elevated.
- Industry supplies have tightened as the Oxnard, California season finished earlier than expected due to poor quality
- Limited supplies remain in Baja and Sonora, Mexico; the size profile is small
-
The Santa Maria and Salinas Valley, California seasons are underway
- Volume continues to ramp up in Salinas
- Currently, Salinas production is hand harvest only due to varying sprout sizing; machine-harvested varieties that grow uniformly will be ready in two weeks
- Domestic quality is very good: size and shape are optimal for commodity and processing packs
- Expect elevated prices for the next 10 to 14 days until Salinas Valley production is able to sufficiently meet current demand
