Bell pepper, cucumber, and squash harvesting transitions are underway as production in Florida and Mexico are wrapping up over the next week. Scattered thunderstorms in Georgia and Northern Florida over the next week will delay production in most East Coast growing regions. Expect rising prices over the next two weeks as demand shifts west.

Bell Peppers

• Markon First Crop (MFC) and Markon Essentials (ESS) Green Bell Peppers are available in California, Florida, and Mexico (into Nogales, Arizona)
• MFC Red Bell Peppers are available in California and Mexico (into Nogales)
• Harvesting will wind down in Southern Florida over the next 7 to 10 days
• Supplies are available in Central and Northern Florida, however the heavy rain forecast over the next 4 to 6 days will delay production and reduce yields; expect prices to climb over the next 7 to 10 days
• Production will ramp up in Georgia the week of June 1 
• East Coast quality is good; defects include some bruising and scarring 
• The Mexican green bell season will end this week; red bells will be available through May
• Coachella growers will continue to produce green bells through the week of June 6; the red bell season will end June 17
• Production will transition north to Oxnard, California on June 1 and to Bakersfield, California by June 15

 Cucumbers

• MFC Cucumbers are available in Florida and Mexico (into Nogales)
• East Coast supplies are ample in Central Florida
• Growers in Georgia have begun production in a light way; rain over the next week could delay initial harvests
• The market will increase slightly over the next week due to wet weather, but it will return to normal levels as volume increases in Georgia over the next two weeks
• Stocks are adequate in Baja, Mexico; quality is excellent
• West Coast prices may increase as the season in mainland Mexico winds down over the next 7 to 10 days and rains impact East Coast production

Squash

• MFC Squash is available in Georgia and will become available in Santa Maria, California by May 30
• Supplies are sufficient in Northern Florida; volume is increasing daily in Georgia
• Rain in Florida and Georgia could limit East Coast stocks over the next 7 to 10 days
• Mexican stocks will continue to cross into Nogales through May; the season will end in early June
• Harvesting is underway in Fresno and Santa Maria, California and will reach full production levels by May 30
• Ample industry supplies are holding markets at low levels
