Green bell pepper prices are stable on both coasts. Supplies are ramping up in California coastal regions (Gilroy, Hollister, and Oxnard). Production is increasing in Michigan and Ohio.

Red bell pepper stocks remain limited this week; however, extremely high temperatures over the past week are causing problems such as dehydration and shriveling. Growers in Hollister and Oxnard will begin harvesting over the next 10 days; the market will start easing in two weeks.

Green Bell Peppers

• Markon First Crop (MFC) and Markon Essentials (ESS) Green Bell Peppers are available in California and Tennessee
• Markets will remain steady to slightly lower over the next two weeks as supplies increase in California and Michigan
• Quality is good on both coasts
• Sporadic rainfall in areas of Michigan and Tennessee could result in moderate decay issues
• Hot weather throughout California’s San Joaquin Valley may shorten shelf-life and soften product

Red Bell Peppers

• MFC Red Bell Peppers are sporadic; ESS Red Bell Peppers are available in California
• Hot weather will decrease yields in Bakersfield, California this week; the market will remain elevated through early next week
• Production will transition to Hollister and Oxnard over the next 10 days; expect prices to inch down by August 12
• Recent high temperatures affected quality in current fields, resulting in extremely low volume and quality issues; temperatures as high as 113 degrees cause problems like dehydration, early breakdown, and softness
