UPDATE: BELL PEPPERS

Severe weather will slow green bell pepper production along the East Coast this week. Red bell pepper prices remain elevated as demand exceeds supply.
Green Bells
- Markon First Crop (MFC) and Markon Essentials (ESS) Green Bell Peppers are available
- The East Coast is experiencing severe weather with Tropical Storm Elsa moving up the coastline; excessive rain and wind are expected to hamper production from North Carolina to New Jersey
- North Central Mexico is producing good quality bell peppers; light supplies are crossing into South Texas

California’s San Joaquin Valley is at peak production
- The crop is dominated by jumbo and extra-large sizes
- Quality is excellent
- The market is expected to increase
Red Bells
- MFC and ESS Red Bell Peppers are available

San Joaquin Valley new crop harvesting is slowly getting underway
- Size is dominated by extra-large stocks
- Quality is good: shape is elongated
- The East Coast has a very limited supply of colored bell peppers
- Western Canadian greenhouses are experiencing some quality issues due to the Northwest heatwave last week
- Prices are expected to remain elevated for the next one to two weeks or until California supplies ramp up
