The green bell pepper season will start in California’s San Joaquin Valley this week. The California desert region and Canadian greenhouses are supplying excellent quality red bell peppers.
 
Green Bells

• Markon First Crop (MFC) and Markon Essentials (ESS) Green Bell Peppers are available
• Production has begun in the Eastern Mexico region of San Luis Potosi (crossing through South Texas); volume is light
• California harvests are transitioning from the Imperial desert are to the San Joaquin Valley
  • Size is dominated by jumbo and extra-large supplies
  • Quality is very good
• Georgia is the main growing region on the East Coast; stocks are sufficient
  • Quality is good
  • Expect a smooth transition from Georgia to North Carolina and local/regional deals over the next three to four weeks

Steady prices are forecast for the next two weeks
Red Bells

• MFC and ESS Red Bell Peppers are available
• Production in California’s Coachella Valley is down slightly; however, additional acreage will be harvested beginning next week
  • Size is dominated by large peppers
  • Quality is excellent
• Georgia supplies are limited
• Canadian greenhouses are harvesting consistently excellent quality stocks that range in size from extra-large to double extra large
• Expect slightly lower prices over the next two weeks
