UPDATE: BELL PEPPERS

January 26, 2021

The green bell pepper market is easing; supplies are becoming more plentiful. Red and yellow bell pepper prices remain elevated; volume is low. Cool weather has delayed ripening in Mexico.

Green Bells

  • Markon First Crop (MFC) and Markon Essentials (ESS) Green Bell Peppers are readily available
  • The Sinaloa, Mexico season is in full swing
    • Green supplies have not been affected by recent cool, overcast weather
    • Warm, sunny weather is expected over the next two weeks
  • Florida stocks are adequate
  • Expect lower prices in February

Red and Yellow Bells

  • MFC and ESS Red Bell Peppers are limited; packer label is being substituted as needed
  • Mexico is the primary growing region; yields are below normal
    • Production is being hindered by cold, cloudy weather in late December/early January
    • Lack of sunlight has slowed the ripening process
  • Stocks are extremely limited in Mexico and Florida
  • Prices are high; expect supplies to slowly increase with the warm, sunny weather that’s forecast
