UPDATE: BELL PEPPERS

Prices are rising. Overall bell pepper volume has dropped significantly, especially green bell pepper stocks.

Nogales supplies are extremely limited
- Decreased demand due to COVID-19 has slowed production; some growers actually abandoned fields before harvesting was complete
- Overall yields have declined
- Quality is below normal
- Crop size is dominated by small peppers
- Demand is shifting from Mexico to Florida, driving up prices
- The California green bell season has started in a limited way; red bell pepper harvesting will begin the week of May 11
- Production will start in Georgia by mid-May
- Expect elevated markets and tight supplies for the next two to four weeks (when the domestic seasons ramp up)
