UPDATE: Asparagus

The Salinas Valley asparagus season is winding down, while production in Central Mexico is slowly ramping up. Markon First Crop (MFC) Asparagus availability out of Salinas is sporadic due to limited supplies.
Salinas, California
- Supplies are tightening; 28-pound packs are limited
- The season will end by late June
- Cool May temperatures reduced volume in the Salinas Valley and caused high prices this season
- Quality is very good
Peru
- Packer label supplies are available to load out of Miami, Florida; supplies are limited, especially large sizes
- The market is steady; stocks are expected to increase by early July
- Quality is good
Mexico
- Limited quantities are available as the season begins in the growing region of Guanajuato in Central Mexico
- Supplies will increase in a couple of weeks
- Jumbo and extra-large sizes are limited
- Packer label is available to load out of South Texas, as well as Los Angeles and Salinas, California
- Starting in September, MFC Asparagus will be available out of Baja, Mexico (with transfers to Salinas, California)
- Expect the market to rise as demand shifts from the West Coast over the next several weeks
- Quality is good
