UPDATE: Apples

April 24, 2017

Sufficient storage supplies of Markon First Crop Fuji, Gala, and Red Delicious Apples from Washington remain available. The season for MFC Golden Delicious Apples is beginning to wind down. MFC Granny Smith Apples are limited

  • Size profile is large
    • Fruit is dominated by 80- to 100-count sizes
    • Small sizes (113- to 138-count apples) are less plentiful
  • FOB prices for large sizes will be low due to their abundance; small sizes will be more expensive
  • Golden Delicious 125-count and smaller stocks are extremely limited as acreage has declined compared to years past; this variety is very susceptible to bruising during harvesting, transportation, sorting, and packing
  • Granny Smith shipments are well ahead of last year’s pace; shippers are packing less frequently to insure supplies last
