New crop Washington Markon First Crop (MFC) Fuji, Gala, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, and Red Delicious Apples are on the market; 113-count and smaller size Golden Delicious will be limited all season. Packer label Honeycrisp apples are also now available. Other varietals such as Braeburn and Pink Lady stocks will be on the market soon.

Storage crop MFC Granny Smith and Red Delicious Apples are also available. Remaining supplies are limited, particularly small fruit (125- and 138-count sizes), as well as Washington Fancy and No. 2 grades.  

2016-2017 Washington Apple Crop

• Estimates released by Washington's apple industry indicate that 2016-2017 volume will be approximately 10 percent higher than the 2015-2016 season
• Nearly 130 million bushels are forecast to be shipped this season versus 116 million in 2015-2016
• Weather was ideal for growing during the pollination and cell division stages
• Size profile is on the larger side
• Fruit is dominated by 80- through 100-count sizes
• Larger apples are excellent for the retail sector, but not as conducive to foodservice operators
• Small sizes (113- through 138-count supplies) will be tighter
• Growers are reporting that Golden Delicious 125-count and smaller stocks will be the most limited
• Golden Delicious apples are very susceptible to bruising during harvesting, transportation, sorting, and packing
• Growers are planting fewer than in years past
• FOB prices for large sizes will be low due to the abundance of this fruit; small sizes will be more expensive
