• A limited number of growers have begun packing lettuce items in Huron, California
• Elevated insect pressure is common during the spring growing transition
• Current lots are exhibiting low insect counts, but their numbers may increase as the season progresses
• Most insects are concentrated at the base/core of the heads
• Operator customers can greatly reduce or eliminate insect issues by making a higher cut and thoroughly rinsing all of the useable product before serving
• Hail damage is also present in some of the first lots due to a storm that passed through a couple of weeks ago, but this issue may be isolated
