FOOD SAFETY UPDATE: Cyclospora Outbreak potentially liked to Bagged Salads
This update does not apply to any Markon First Crop, Ready-Set-Serve, or Markon Essentials products.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state and local partners are investigating a multistate outbreak of Cyclospora infections potentially linked to ALDI, Hy-Vee, and Jewel-Osco grocery store brand “garden salads” that contain iceberg lettuce, red cabbage, and carrots.
On June 20, 2020 Hy-Vee recalled 12 oz. Hy-Vee Garden Salad products due to potential contamination with Cyclospora. The recall was initiated after Hy-Vee was notified by Fresh Express – who manufactures the product –that the FDA and CDC have been investigating an outbreak of Cyclospora in the upper Midwest section of the United States.
FDA and CDC recommend that consumers not eat, and restaurants and retailers not sell or serve ALDI Little Salad Bar Brand Garden Salad sold in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, and Missouri, all Hy-Vee Brand Garden Salad sold in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, and Nebraska, and Jewel-Osco Signature Farms Brand Garden Salad sold in Illinois.
FDA has initiated a traceback investigation to determine the supplier(s) and distributor(s) information to find the cause and source of the outbreak.
