FROM THE FIELDS: WEST COAST COLD SNAP

November 09, 2020

All major Arizona and California growing regions will be experiencing a significant cool down this week with temperatures dipping 10-15° below normal in some areas. Light frost or lettuce ice is being reported in Huron, Salinas, and Santa Maria, which will cause one to three hour harvest delays for crops such as broccoli, lettuce, and strawberries. More frost/lettuce ice can be expected in these areas as well as the desert growing region Tuesday, November 10 through Friday, November 13 as morning lows dip into the low to mid-30s.

The cold temperatures and gusty winds might not impact quality too much, but will hinder plant growth possibly into next week if ground temperatures stay cold for too long.
