Several key growing regions on California’s Central Coast are expecting light rain in the coming days. Growers will be packing orders ahead of the rain in order to minimize harvesting and/or loading delays.

Salinas Valley

• The northern part of the valley will see rain at mid-day on Friday, November 3
• Scattered showers will continue into Saturday, November 4
• Mostly dry conditions are expected on Sunday before light showers resume early Monday, November 6
• A total of .20”-.60” of rain are currently expected, with the highest amounts in the Watsonville region
• Salinas/Watsonville strawberries will be the most heavily impacted by even light amounts of rain
• Row crop lettuce and baby leaf items may develop rain-related quality and shelf-life concerns

Huron

• Up to .10”-.25” of rain is expected between the mornings of Friday and Saturday, November 3 and 4
• Another storm could bring .03”-.15” between Sunday evening and Monday morning, November 5 and 6
• Harvesting delays and possible rain-related quality issues can be expected for iceberg lettuce growers in the region

Santa Maria

• Light and scattered rain is expected as early Friday evening, November 3, continuing off and on through Sunday, November 5
• The best chance for rain occurs Monday morning, November 6; up to .25”-.30” is possible
• Strawberry growers in the region will be culling damaged fruit in the days that follow the rain; expect yields to decline
