FROM THE FIELDS: Tender Leaf Quality
December 07, 2017
Recent warm temperatures in the Arizona/California desert growing region have impacted supplies of tender leaf items such as spinach and spring mix. The warm weather caused rapid growth and mildew concerns, which in turn are leading to elevated mechanical damage/fines and shortened shelf life.
Cooler weather has moved in over the last few days which will allow for a more steady growth rate and improved texture, but sporadic issues can be expected in some finished packs of the above-mentioned items.
