FROM THE FIELDS: Sporadic Showers in Santa Maria, California

September 15, 2015

Some areas of the Santa Maria, California growing region received sporadic showers this morning; the rain is expected to continue off and on through the afternoon of Tuesday, September 15. Nearly half an inch of rainfall may be recorded due to this excess moisture ushered in by the remnants of Tropical Storm Linda.

Growers had already harvested most of today’s Markon strawberry orders before the rain began to fall and are taking measures to keep remaining cartons as clean and dry as possible.

These showers probably won’t have a significant impact on new crop Santa Maria strawberries, but Markon inspectors will be monitoring quality and field conditions to be sure and will update further when more information becomes available.
