FROM THE FIELDS: SANTA MARIA STRAWBERRIES

October 20, 2020

California’s Santa Maria growing region once again received unseasonably high temperatures in the mid-90s to 100 degrees last week. Strawberry quality, size, and volume estimates have been affected for at least the next two weeks. Cooler weather this week will help keep the fruit from becoming softer, but a significant amount of bruised, overripe, and sunburned berries are being reported, as well as smaller overall size.

Markon First Crop (MFC) Strawberries are available in 8/1-pound and 2/4-pound plastic as well as our 4/2-pound cardboard clamshells. Harvesting crews are working hard to cull the above-mentioned defects for the best possible packs.
