FROM THE FIELDS: SANTA MARIA STRAWBERRIES

- The Oxnard, California season is winding down
- Supplies of Markon First Crop Strawberries are available out of Santa Maria, California
- Cold temperatures, frost, and rain slowed plant growth in March and early April, delaying peak volume, but yields are expected to increase by early to mid-May for Mother’s Day
- Quality issues such as decay, mildew, mold, and water damage are reducing yields as crews must cull plants to remove defects
- Temperatures are expected to rise into the upper 60s and low 70s over the next 10 days
