The Arizona/California desert region is forecast to receive record high temperatures Thursday, April 1, through Sunday, April 4 due to a strong high pressure ridge over the Southwest. The temperatures are expected to reach the mid-80°s to upper 90°s in most areas.

Quality and shelf-life will be impacted for remaining desert supplies of commodity and value-added broccoli, cauliflower, lettuces, and tender leaf items. Expect to see varying levels of heat stress and shortened shelf-life potential for these desert-based crops through the week of April 12. All of the above-mentioned items will be shipping from the Salinas Valley by the week of April 19.

Temperatures will cool down by Tuesday, April 6, but will remain unseasonably warm throughout next week. Markon inspectors will be monitoring conditions and working directly with suppliers on selecting the best product for our commodity and value-added packs.

Cold chain management will be especially critical through the entire supply chain for maximizing quality and shelf-life. Ordering for quick turns is recommended.
