FROM THE FIELDS: Rain in the Desert Regions
February 11, 2020
A half-inch of rain fell across the Arizona and California desert growing regions yesterday, February 10. The rain and wind created adverse harvesting conditions which in turn created production delays and power outages in Yuma, Arizona and California’s Imperial Valley.
Rain-related quality defects such as mildew, premature pinking, and shortened shelf-life are expected in both commodity and value-added salads.
Current forecasts call for temperatures in the low to mid-60s over the next several days with high winds up to 30 MPH.
