FROM THE FIELDS: Rain in Desert Growing Region

February 14, 2019

Widespread rain storms have moved through the desert growing regions with up to 1.00” of rain falling in the Coachella Valley, CA, and Imperial Valley, CA, and Yuma, AZ regions receiving .15”-.30”. In anticipation of the forecasted rain causing shippers to cancel their harvest today, Markon requested all branded suppliers to pack today’s product yesterday, allowing for on time loading and 100% fill of orders.

The forecast through next week calls for dry weather, but colder than normal temperatures. Lettuce ice is expected as daytime temperatures drop into the low 60s and nighttime temperatures drop into the low 30s.
