FROM THE FIELDS: Light Lettuce Ice in the Salinas Valley
November 06, 2017
Temperatures dropped into the low to mid 30's in the Salinas Valley this morning causing light lettuce ice. Most harvesting crews are reporting 1-2 hour delays to allow ice to thaw before harvest begins.
There is a possibility for more light lettuce ice tomorrow, Tuesday, November 7, with a chance of rain moving through the area later in the week and into the weekend.
A majority of growers have already transitioned iceberg lettuce to Huron, California bridging the gap before Yuma, Arizona shipments increase later this month.
