FROM THE FIELDS: LIGHT LETTUCE ICE IN THE DESERT REGION

December 21, 2020

The Arizona/California desert growing region is experiencing light lettuce ice this morning in colder areas with minor production delays expected for lettuce and other row crops. More widespread ice is forecast for Tuesday, December 21 and again on Friday, December 25 through the weekend as a low pressure system moves into the area with strong, cold winds.

Morning temperatures will be in the low 30°s to low 40°s today and tomorrow, dipping into the upper 20°s to upper 30°s by Friday. Markon inspectors are monitoring field conditions and quality of commodity and value-added items closely and will continue to update as needed.
