FROM THE FIELDS: LETTUCE ICE IN THE DESERT REGION

January 11, 2021

Colder areas of the California/Arizona growing region are experiencing lettuce ice that will cause harvesting delays of up to two hours this morning. More widespread ice is forecast through the remainder of the weekend and possibly into Wednesday, January 13 as morning temperatures drop into the low-to-upper 30s. Production and loading delays can be expected.

The overall quality for lettuce items is currently still very good despite some recent light frost events. Markon inspectors will continue monitoring quality and will update further as needed.
