FROM THE FIELDS: Lettuce Ice in the Desert Region
December 31, 2020
Temperatures in the Arizona/California desert growing region dropped into the mid-to upper 30s this morning causing moderate lettuce ice to form in many areas. Harvesting crews are on standby until 9:00 to 9:30AM MST. The recent erratic weather patterns will be affecting case weights and yields for lettuce and other desert row crops over the next couple of weeks.
Markon inspectors will be monitoring quality and supply closely will update further as needed.
