FROM THE FIELDS: Lettuce Ice In The Desert Region

February 12, 2020
Temperatures in the Arizona/California desert growing region dropped into the low to upper 30s this morning causing sporadic lettuce ice to form in many areas. Harvesting crews are on standby until 9-9:30 AM (MST). The recent pattern of erratic weather will be affecting quality, shelf-life, case weights, and yields for lettuce and other desert row crops for approximately two weeks. Forecast for the next 10 days is more favorable and will be in upper-60’s to mid-70’s.

Markon inspectors will be monitoring quality and supply closely will update further as needed.
