FROM THE FIELDS: LETTUCE ICE IN THE DESERT GROWING REGION

December 16, 2020

Harvesting operations in the Arizona/California desert growing region will be delayed until 9:00-10:30 AM (MST). Early morning temperatures will drop into the low to mid-30°s through Thursday, December 17. The forecast is calling for more lettuce ice over the weekend and early next week as well.

Lettuce supplies are abundant, but the low temperatures will inhibit plant growth and maturity, leading to lighter case weights and continued quality challenges with epidermal blister and peel.
