FROM THE FIELDS: Iceberg Lettuce Weights
Markon First Crop (MFC) Premium Iceberg Lettuce is available.
Despite the current cold, windy conditions in the Arizona/California desert region, case weights for MFC Premium Iceberg Lettuce in 24-count packs range from 47 to 51 pounds in the field (45 to 49 pounds at store level). Most growers took one or two days off from harvesting during the Christmas holiday, which allowed some heads to increase in size and weight. Quality is excellent.
This weekend is expected to bring some of the coldest conditions of the winter season so far, but Markon is optimistic that case weights and yields will remain high through early January.
