FROM THE FIELDS: Ice in the Desert Region
December 14, 2017
Early morning temperatures dipped into the mid- to upper 30s in the Arizona/California desert region, causing lettuce ice to develop. Harvesting delays up to two hours are being reported as crews wait for the crops to thaw. Shipping delays may occur as a result.
More cold temperatures and lettuce ice are expected the week of December 18, as another cold trough moves through the desert regions. Markon inspectors will be monitoring commodity and value-added supplies closely and will update further as needed.
